One of the fun new series I am starting on the blog for In Good Company Design is my Budget vs. Break the Bank series. As the name it suggests it is focused on finding great pieces of furniture, decorations or accessories at both a high and low price point. That way you can Get the Look whether you want to spend a lot or a little.
One of the items I find quite hard to source and more importantly like are floor lamps. Unlike overhead lighting and table lamps, the range on offer is smaller and most often are either quite tired in looks or way too officey for my liking. So when I decorated Zara’s bedroom knowing that she would need one in her reading corner, I was thrilled to spot the Gubi Grasshopper floor lamp. The design is a perfect mix of being modern and discreet, but simultaneously interesting and the variety of colourways a huge plus.
As, I knew this was a floor lamp that could easily translate from pre-teen to adult bedroom, I decided to splurge on the real thing, something Zara can have for life. But at 750chf it is a pricey piece if you are doing a whole room makeover and really do just need a floor lamp – so the 170chf price point I spotted at Micasa is a huge win too! Can you tell the difference? And at 25% of the original price does it really matter?
